United States in the 1920’s

by Sara Ornelas - Center Street Elementary - El Segundo Unified

I. The Social “Norm” Changing

The 1920’s in United States history is known as “The Jazz Age,” “The Age of Prohibition,” and “The Return to Normalcy.” However, what none of those titles reflect is the overwhelming shift in the dynamic of the social structure and its ever-lasting effects on society.

This presentation will take the student through the changes in the roles of women, African-Americans, immigrants, and other non-native citizens as technology modernizes everyday living, laws transform the rights of “other Americans,” and growing animosity white American males felt as the threat of their superior status in society became increasingly less dominant.
